How to Take Care of your Naturally Wavy Nanolink Extensions

How to Take Care of your Naturally Wavy Nanolink Extensions

Should you take care of wavy extensions differently than straight extensions?

To first understand how to care for our wavy line of extensions, we must first have a little bit of an understanding on curly hair in general. First of all, it is unique. It bends and curves and coils. Because of this, it can be more fragile and delicate. And because of its curvy nature, the natural oils produced by the scalp to soften and protect it have a harder time traveling from top to bottom. Thus, resulting in curly haired girls experiencing low levels of moisture - and we all know what that leads to (tangling, frizz, split ends, etc)

In essence, curly hair is thirsty hair.

For girls with naturally curly hair, the hair care regimen is completely different then to that of a girl with a straighter texture hair. It only makes sense then that wavy or curly hair extensions also need special treatment.

Remember – hair is technically dead and has no nervous system, blood, or cell regeneration. And once it is cut, the already low amounts of natural oils that we would want to nourish our curly locks are now completely gone and relying solely on you to provide them with the TLC they need.

Here are smart hair care tips to make sure you are getting the most out of your gorgeous set of wavy extensions.

Nourish with conditioner.

As mentioned above, wavy and curly hair extensions tend to be dryer than a straight textured extension might be. Keep them moisturized with a curl-specific conditioner. These products have formulas that will make your wavy extensions feel softer and smoother.

Protect with a serum.

Because both your naturally wavy hair and the wavy extensions are more prone to frizz, a nourishing serum is your friend. Apply any curl specific serum to damp or dry hair from mid shaft down, to help tame frizz and fly-aways for a shinier, more manageable style.

Go easy on the drying.

After washing, do not towel-dry. This will only cause your hair to frizz and tangle. We recommend wrapping your hair in a cotton t-shirt very gently.

Use your diffuser.

A big part of curly hair care is learning to dry it gently and minimally. When you blow dry your hair, use a diffuser. This will reduce frizz by distributing heat evenly – but do not over-dry: Just dry the bond area and dry out most of the water and then leave the rest to dry naturally.

Minimize brushing.

Brushing in the traditional sense can be too aggressive for wavy hair extensions – it can pull out the natural curl and you will lose definition and provoke frizz. When your hair is wet (avoid combing your hair when its dry) using a wide-toothed comb, start at the ends of the hair and work your way up to avoid breakage. Brush your hair very slowly and softly.

Use styling products on wet hair.

Apply products while your hair is still damp/wet. This will help lock in the moisture and keep your waves thick and lustrous and tangle free. Diva Curl’s line of products are our absolute go-to for amazing results. Their “No Comb De-tangling Spray” is a super conditioning, leave-in spray that will help undo knots and tangles easily. Simply spritz on your wavy-extensions as needed for smooth, shiny, frizz-free waves.

Another favourite product of ours is Diva Curl’s “Supermousse Moisture-Rich Coconut Volumizer” This moisture-rich, alcohol-free mousse with coconut water, tucuma butter and the VolumiCurl Complex supercharges curls with maximum volume and moisture plus definition for a soft, no crunch finish.
