Working With Our Colours
How to select and blend colours for a natural result
Look at the right area
Start with the mid-lengths and ends.
This is where the extensions will sit and blend, so it matters more than the root.
Identify the colours already there
- Level (light vs. dark)
- Tone (warm vs. cool)
- Dimension (highlights, lowlights, solid tone)
Build your blend
Use 2-3 shades to recreate what you see:
- Don’t see a dual tone that matches? Combine colours to create your own dimension.
- Add lighter pieces for brightness.
- Use darker tones to create depth.

How do I choose the right colour online?
Match to the mid‑lengths and ends, not the root. From there, choose 2–3 shades that reflect the light and dark tones already in the hair. For more help, visit our free Blend Builder.
Do I need to use more than one colour?
In most cases, yes. Natural hair isn’t one flat tone, and using multiple shades will give a softer, more seamless blend.
What if I’m between two shades?
You can combine them. Blending shades often creates a more natural result than trying to pick one exact match.
What’s the difference between dual tone, balayage, and rooted colours?
Dual tones blend two shades evenly throughout the strand. Balayage shades have a longer root—typically 5–6 inches—that gradually transitions into lighter ends for a soft, dimensional blend. Rooted colours have a shorter root, around 1–2 inches, designed to blend closely with the natural root area.
Can I tone or colour the extensions?
Extensions can be toned or darkened, but we don’t recommend lightening them, as this can affect the integrity of the hair.
How do I keep blonde tones from going brassy?
Use a purple or blue shampoo as needed, avoid over‑washing, and always use heat protection.
Do darker colours last longer than lighter ones?
Yes. Darker shades typically maintain their quality longer, while very light blondes are more delicate due to the lightening process.
What bead colour should I use?
Choose a bead colour that blends with the root area where the extensions are installed to keep the attachment discreet.
