How Hair Extensions Saved my Hair

Do blondes really have more fun?
YES!
But... it maybe might have had something to do with the fact that I was younger, thinner, and able to stay out past midnight without wanting to die. Okay, full disclosure: that is 100% the reason. Here I am (or was) 4 years ago:
As you may have guessed, I am in fact a former blonde and a current brunette. I really like my dark hair but I still suffer from blonde withdrawal a couple of times a year. It always happens the same way; you are driving down the street minding your own business, when out of nowhere she appears: a hot blonde, sent specifically to ruin your day. That bitch.
The hot blonde makes you question everything. For the rest of the day all you can think about is your hair. You scroll through your old pictures and even though you like your new hair, you are admittedly going through an itsy bitsy bit of buyer’s remorse. You start looking on Instagram and YouTube, finding out if there are any new products for going blonde.
Though I am not sure if the withdrawals will ever completely go away, I can tell you one thing, friends; I will never bleach my hair again. Ever.
Bleaching my hair destroyed it. It wasn’t like a disaster – I didn’t have massive clumps falling out, bald patches, or anything dramatic – it was more subtle. It wouldn’t grow. It was broken and lifeless. I used a lot of product to “fake” a nice shine because my hair had none of its own anymore. Each time I had my extensions moved up, I was constantly disappointed to see that it hadn’t grown at all.
The Struggle is Real. When I’m blonde for a long period of time, I miss being a brunette. Brunettes are so sultry and mysterious and sexy. And then when I am a brunette for a while, I miss being a blonde. Having all heads turn when you enter a room, feeling ultra girly, ultra flirty, and untouchable. Why can’t you just flip a switch and be something different every day? #firstworldproblems
As a recovering blonde (I am two years brunette, thank you), I am happy to report that my hair is coming along nicely. It is shiny again! It has grown a TON! Below is a picture from two weeks ago when I had my extensions taken out (stay tuned for a Hair Flair video starring yours truly, an educational look at getting extensions installed).
With the assistance of my extensions, regular maintenance appointments, and letting my hair breathe, I have had gorgeous results. Life in the blonde lane was great while it lasted, but for today at least, I think I will be staying on the dark side.
